Catch a Mermaid
This is a really quick knit--I averaged a section an evening--and it’s an easy introduction to lacy knitting for newbies.
I used Araucania Patagonia, which was donated by Haus of Yarn in five different colors that make me think of coral reefs in the sea.
The patterns I chose remind me of fishnets, especially using this variegated, thick-thin cotton yarn, however, any aran weight or light chunky yarn will work fine.
The yarn label recommends needle size 8 - 10 U.S./5 - 6 mm, which gives you lots of room to experiment with what works best for you. I used #9 needles, smack-dab in the middle, size-wise. The gauge is not so important, as this is a lacy, drapey, stretchy blanket. If you hold it up from the top edge, it drapes long, and if you hold it up on the side edge, it drapes wider. If you throw it over your lap, it drapes exactly the way you want!
