Caterpillar
The Caterpillar can be knitted as a scarf or as a shawlette. You will find both versions included in this pattern.
You have several yarn options as well. You can use two contrasting yarns like I did with the scarf version. Here I used Crystal Palace Mini Mochi Jungle combined with Crystal Palace Mini Solid Lili Pad. For the first shawlette I used Misty Alpaca Hand Painted Sock Sun Salsa. For the other one I used Colinette Jitterbug Toucan. All these yarns will create a different effect, as you can see in the pictures. The shorter color change of the MIsti Alpaca and the Jitterbug creates a caterpillar like i-cord, while the Mini Solid combined with the gradient colors of the Mini Mochi underline the caterpillar shape of the stripes. Be creative and combine what you like best.
The Caterpillar scarf is completely reversible. For the shawlette I will give you two options. A non-reversible version with a smoother back or the reversible one with a slightly embossed structure on both sides.
You will find photo tutorials on the necessary techniques to set up this piece as well as written and charted instructions along with graphics to explain the structure. After knitting the first 120 rows it is rather a mindless knit and quite suitable for traveling as well.
The principle lends itself to all kinds of shapes. You can used it to knit king size blankets, afghans, baby blankets, shawls etc. You can easily adjust this pattern to your individual project needs. It is also suitable to use use up your yarn leftovers.
Happy Knitting
