I wanted to make a cabled hat and was inspired by the gothic arches of cathedrals.
The brim is knitted in a simple rib pattern and can be made longer in Version 2 for a double thick folded brim which will be snuggly warm.
The cable pattern is very stretchy. It will fit most heads between 16-22 inches for the smaller size and 22-25 inches for the m/l. The main difference between the Adult S and M/L is the depth of the hat and the cast on for the brim.
The sizing is achieved by moving up a needle size and for the M/L size I used a 5.5mm/US9 circular needle for the main part of the hat. The hats are unisex and you have the option to add a pompom for a bit of winter fun.
A note on needle sizes. I used a 4mm needle for my ribbing with the Debbie Bliss BFL Aran and it was perfect for me in both the S and M/L sizes. The yarn springs back beautifully, however, one of our test knitters used an acrylic blend yarn and found that she needed to use a smaller needle and dropped to a 3.75mm needle for her ribbing to make the right gauge/tension. Please check your gauge/tension.
Yarn Quantities allow for a pompom and additional yardage should your tension/gauge vary slightly from ours.
