Feature just one cat, or a whole family of cats on this beanie with a spiraling pattern reminiscent of rooftops.

Techniques used in the beanie include short rows, picking up stitches and lots of counting. The beanie is knitted on double point needles, in a spiral from the top down, with just a few stitches on each row The bottom band is picked up and knitted with a circular needle.

Techniques for the cats include knitting in the round on a small number of stitches, Icord, picking up stitches and short rows.

This is an experienced level pattern.

Instructions are given for sizes 16” (41 cm), 21” (53 cm), and 23” (58 cm)
These correspond to infant, small adult and medium-large adult sizes. A child size beanie can be made by knitting the 16” size with a gauge of 20 sts/4”.

The beanie is knitted with DK weight or light worsted weight yarn. You may use any yarn.
The sample, size 23” (58 cm), was knitted with 45 g Feederbrook Farms Entropy DK, 117 yds (107 m)
Size 21” (53 cm) requires 105 yds (96 m)
Size 16” (41 cm) requires 70 yds (64 m)

The cats are knitted with sock or fingering weight yarn. You may use any yarn, but yarn with a 50% or greater wool content will hold the shape best. The samples were knitted with Knit Picks Stroll fingering.
Sitting cat: 4.5g 21 yds (19 m)
Sleeping cat: 6.5g 30 yds (27.5 m)
Stretching cat: 6.5g 30 yds (27.5 m)

Gauge: For the beanie, 22 sts and 36 rows / 4” (10 cm).
For the cats, gauge is not important – just a tight weave.
