Inspired by the rock structures at the Giants’ Causeway in Northern Ireland, this hat is suitable for the whole family. The pattern is easy to memorise without being boring for the knitter, and the ribbing makes the pattern suitable for solid coloured yarns as well as lightly patterned or self-striping ones.

The pattern uses written instructions only, no charts.

There are four sizes available, Toddler (16-17”/41-43cm head circumference), Child (18-19”/46-48.5cm head circumference), Teen/Small Adult (20-22”/51-56cm head circumference) and Large Adult (22-24”/56-61cm head circumference) when worked to pattern tension of 23 sts and 30 rows to 4”/10cm of stocking stitch. It is wise to check your tension to ensure correct sizing and yarn yardage needs.

110 (120, 135, 165) yards/ 100 (110, 124, 151)m DK weight yarn
3.75mm (US 5) knitting needles for knitting in the round
Two stitch markers, preferably different in appearance
Darning needle for weaving in ends
