O-Wool O-WASH WORSTED (100% certified organic merino; 100g/206yds); 2 sks Color A, 1 sk Color B, 3 sks Color C. Shown in Coral Reef (coral) (A), Wood Dove (pale pink) (B), and Blackbird (black) (C).

GAUGE
19 sts and 40 rows = 4” in Garter Stitch, blocked.
Note: Use Color B for your gauge swatch. This is the color that has the most yardage to spare.

NEEDLES
US 7/4.5mm 32” circular needle or size to obtain gauge
Optional: US 7/4.5mm 16” circular needle (something without a long cord for ease of knitting areas that don’t yet require it).

NOTIONS

• tapestry needle
• 6 stitch markers; 3 in one color and 3 in another. These are referred to in the pattern as mA and mB.

Here’s a little backstory for the funny name of this pattern. I try and name all of my designs after things in and around the area of Philadelphia I live in. Cave of Kelpius is tucked off a remote hiking trail in the city park where I live, called Wissahickon Valley Park. When I’m not knitting and designing, I’m riding my horse through our gorgeous city park and ride past this cave often. The strange history of it has always intrigued me. Mystic and scholar Johannes Kelpius and his followers settled in this area in 1694. The cave is believed to be the 17th century home of America’s first cult of mystics to predict the imminent apocalypse, and were called the “Hermits of the Wissahickon”. The bold colors and geometry in this design told me it was time to give a nod to my favorite cave with a unique history.
