A Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a traditional Scottish social event where Scottish dancing and a lively band is required. And probably a fair bit of beer and whisky. And stout shoes.

The pattern includes instructions for both a hat and a cowl using the same chart - once round for the hat and twice round for the cowl. You can make either the hat or the cowl out of one hank of Kinross 4ply (205m of fingering yarn) in two contrasting shades.

The hat sample shown was made with Black and Lichen in 4/4 time. The cowl is in Black and Snowdrop.

Needles used: 2.75mm for brim and 3.25mm for stranded section - DPNs or circular. Also required - 1 stitch marker and a darning needle for weaving in ends.

The Kinross 4ply is pure lambswool spun in Scotland and is beautifully soft to work with. It blooms when washed and has wonderful stitch definition.

This works out as a quick knit with only a few rounds of stranding, although there are some long floats to be careful of.
