Celtic Beanie
by Nienke Paap
Pattern description
I designed this beanie as a gift for a male friend. Since he spends a lot of time outdoors, I used a double knitting technique, the two layers making it extra warm even on a windy day. Double knitting also makes the garment reversible, creating a negative of the pattern on the inside. I drew up a Celtic knot, as I was obsessed with cables at the time, but for this hat I preferred working with colors. The result is a beanie that’s kind of a fakeout--you get the look of cables, without any cabling! The color choice was easy, my friend being a real ecoconscious kind of guy, but I think that it would also look good in strongly contrasting colors.
Special technique
Double knitting.
