Centerdale Mitts are worked in the round beginning at the cuff. The cable rib is stretchy and helps the mitts feel nicely around your wrist.
The yarn used is a Border LeicesterLincoln/Llama blend from Maybe Tomorrow farm in Chepachet, RI. It is a nice crunchy wool with a little bit of fuzz but not so much to obscure your stitches. And it’s warm !

I had to use a size 4 needle to get a fabric with a feel I liked for these mitts. My gauge was 4 1/2 stitches per inch. You may need to experiment a little to get the same gauge. (I am also a loose knitter) The yarn I used is 10 wpi.

A commercial substitute that would work is Berocco Ultra Alpaca.
