This cabled cowl uses a version of the Hugs and Kisses stitch pattern. It works up quickly in a super bulky yarn. The cables, gauge and yarn combined create a firm fabric that helps the cowl stand up enough to protect your neck, ears and nose from the cold yet it still scrunches down easily to keep you toasty warm.

This pattern is worked flat beginning with a provisional cast on and finished with Kitchener stitch.

The pattern is both written and charted.

Materials:

Yarn: 250 yards (229 meters) Super Bulky weight yarn. Sample is shown in Willow Down, Swan color way. The yardage is an estimate. My samples used between 210 and 235 yards, but depending on your gauge, you may use more or less yardage. It’s better to err on the side of too much yarn.

Needles: Size Us 9 (5.5 mm) straight or circulars.

Notions: waste yarn or circular cable for provisional cast on; cable needle; tapestry needle; markers to mark pattern repeats if wanted.

Gauge:

14 sts and 20 rows = 4” 10 cm in St st before blocking.
20 sts and 25 rows = 4” 10 cm in cable pattern before blocking.

Measurements:

Finished Cowl Size is 12.5” (31.75 cm) wide and 11” (28 cm) tall after grafting.
