This design was inspired by a visit to the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, once the seaside Palace of George IV (Prince Regent) in the early 1800s. Resembling an Oriental Palace from the outside and with grand-scale splendour on the inside, the Palace is now a museum and home to a spectacular array of collections, Oriental artefacts and stunning chandeliers dripping with cut-glass crystals!

And so the Chandelier Shawl came to be… Inspired by hundreds of glass droplets cascading from high above and reflecting the light, the shawl has a pretty lace pattern with beads outlining the falling diamonds to catch the light and sparkle.

The pattern uses one skein of laceweight yarn at 100g / 600m. The sample used a gorgeous blend of Bluefaced Leicester wool and silk which gives it a luxurious shine and drape.

Choose a smooth laceweight yarn in a solid or semi-solid colourway to show off the stitch pattern. Opt for matching or contrasting coloured beads to let your personality sparkle. Or alternatively, you can knit the pattern without adding the beads and let the lace do the dazzling on its own.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions and a handy stitch count checklist is provided at the end of the pattern to help you keep track of your progress.

Measurements: The finished, blocked shawl has a wingspan of 76” (193cm) and a depth of 23.5” (60cm)

Materials

• 3.5oz / 100g, 656 yds / 600m skein of laceweight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern is Under the Olive Tree Silk and Blue-Faced Leicester Lace Yarn – 55% superwash BFL / 45% silk in the Seashell colourway
• 1 x 0.5mm crochet hook for adding the beads
• 1 x US size 4 (3.5mm) 32-40” (80-100cm) circular needle
• 1991 x size 8 beads – The beads used in the pattern picture are Bronze from Under the Olive Tree Knits

Gauge: 24 stitches and 38 rows to 4 inches / 10cm in stockinette stitch
