Changeover I
Changeover I is the first pattern in my ebook “Shawls for Every Season”.
A total of 9 versions of the 4 patterns in the book make up the ebook as follows:
Changeover I – 2 versions, symmetrical and asymmetrical
Changeover II - 3 versions, small symmetrical, medium asymmetrical and large symmetrical.
Changeover III – 1 version
Changeover IV – 3 versions, symmetrical, asymmetrical and symmetrical
A unisex neck wrap pattern, Changeover I is symmetrical to begin with and changes over seamlessly to be asymmetrical. Knit only in garter on the bias, it changes over stripes, color, triangles, technique, shape and size – basically two versions/triangles in one.
My pattern can be followed as written or you can be creative and knit it without striping or change the striping and total stitch count, finish with the first half to keep it symmetrical or continue with second half to make it asymmetrical.
Fingering weight yarns work best for this project. The symmetric version can be worked using a solid color, variegated yarn or a self-striping yarn; striping would look nice with companion yarns or contrasting yarns. For the asymmetric version a solid color is a must for this triangle that either is combined with a contrasting color or a variegated yarn for the striped symmetric triangle of the scarf.
Regarding yarns, for the symmetric triangle, I have used 2 strands of a lace weight yarn held together in one color alternating with one strand of a light fingering weight yarn. For the asymmetric triangle I used 50 gms approx. 200 yds of only the light fingering weight yarn.
Yarn total for both triangles:
Lace weight yarn -- 16 wpi – used approx. 850 yds
Light fingering weight yarn -- 20 wpi—used approx. 280yds
