Charles the Lion
Charles the Lion is ready for a coronation party. I designed this lion to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in 2023. A lion is one of the national symbols of England, and Charles is dressed in their finest military uniform, complete with medals, sash, and epaulettes on the shoulders.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the lion is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). Use a crochet hook to attach strands of yarn onto the head for the lion’s mane.
NEEDLES
A pair of 4mm single pointed knitting needles (US 6).
RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; up to 25g in each colour.
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, bobbins, domed black buttons for eyes, and a metre of black acrylic 4 ply yarn or mending wool to embroider the nose/features.
SIZES
One size only - The lion is 24cm tall.
TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, intarsia colour-work, picking up stitches along an edge, plus embroidery and seaming to finish.
