From the Knit Picks Website:
The Charming Lace Capelet is a versatile accessory that can be worn as evening or daywear layered over a top, blouse or dress. The neck of this one-piece pullover, knit on circular needles from the top down, is wide enough to slip on without mussing your hair. It features an overall leafy lace pattern cascading from neckline to hem, culminating in graceful scallops. If desired, beads can be hand-sewed to each point of the scallops, as shown in the white capelet.
The contrasting ruffled trim at the neckline is also knit from the top down on circular needles, blocked, then hand-stitched to the neckline.
Skill level:
The capelet is doable for the advanced beginner to lace knitting who has minimal experience following a lace chart. The lace pattern is only 10 stitches to the horizontal repeat and thus fairly easy to keep track of. The ruffle is not lace but simply made with knits, purls, and increases.
Sizing:
This garment will fit wearers whose shoulder girths range from 38-43 inches, measured around the widest part of the shoulders. The neckline is 10-12 inches smaller in circumference than the shoulder girth. This keeps the capelet on the wearer’s shoulders.
Instructions are provided for making the capelet in two lengths, 11 inches and 13 ½ inches. The ruffle on the 11-inch capelet measures 1 ¾ inches deep; on the 13 ½-inch capelet, 2 ¼ inches.
Two versions of the caplet are shown. The white capelet, in the 11-inch length, is made from Aloft kid mohair and silk in color white; the contrasting ruffle is alpaca and silk Shimmer, in color spice. A 12-mm wooden bead has been sewed to the point of each scallop. The green caplet, in the 13 ½- inch length, is Aloft color jade; the ruffle is Shimmer bayou. There are so many pretty colors available in both yarns that you are sure to find the perfect combination for your wardrobe.
