Chawton Mittens
These colourwork mittens feature cameos—those most classic Regency silhouettes—of a young lady and her fine gentleman gazing at each other. The silhouettes are framed with cabled ovals, worked with the contrasting colour against the main/background colour. The cables give an unexpected hint of texture to the stockinette-stitch mittens and add a little extra challenge for the knitter. In the background are diamond and stripe patterns inspired by historical wallpaper patterns. A deep cuff of twisted-stitch ribbing keeps the mittens snug and practical.
This pattern was originally published in the inaugural edition of Jane Austen Knits (2011). It is still available through the Long Thread Media store, either as part of the digital magazine, or as an individual pattern. (Long Thread Media acquired several titles from Interweave, including Jane Austen Knits.)
The pattern has since been updated and revised, with more extensive notes, professionally re-edited, and re-released under my own label. The version available from Long Thread Media is the original version of the pattern.
The pattern is also available from my Payhip store: https://payhip.com/b/e10f.
I’m offering 50% off the re-released pattern price for knitters who already have the magazine (paper or digital) or the single digital pattern from Interweave. The coupon code is the number of stitches you cast on for the cuff of the mitten. (Spell out the number in words, as in ‘ten’, ‘fifteen’, or ‘ninety-five’.)
