Checkered Cowl
Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s fascination with linear texture provided the main inspiration for the intersecting welts and dropped stitches that give a “checkerboard” look to this unusual cowl. She added color stripes for more visual complexity and interest. Worked at a flat rectangle, the piece begins with a provisional cast-on that is joined to the last row of knitting with the Kitchener stitch to form a seamless loop. To minimize the number of ends to weave in, the unused color is carried along the selvedge and twisted around the working yarn until it is needed again.
