This very practical accessory was born while playing with vertical and horizontal lines. Due to the nature of brioche columns, vertical lines form and combine with horizontal lines constructed with stockinette stitch by alternating colors. These vertical and horizontal lines are placed in a checkered pattern at the center front of the accessory.

Materials: 1 skein Gusto Core for each color, shown in #1041 as C1 and #1044 as C2

Needles: US 4 / 3.50 mm circular for body and US 3 / 3.00 mm (23.5’’ / 60 cm long) circular for neck or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 25 sts x 38 rows in Stockinette stitch = 4’’/ 10 cm square with US 4 / 3.50 mm needles, blocked

21 st panel of checkered pattern measures 3.5’’/ 9 cm and 16 rows of a rep of checkered pattern measures 1.6’’/ 4.2 cm with US 4 / 3.50 mm needles, blocked

Checkerhatch is worked flat, starting from the bottom front body and working toward to the back. Colors alternate in each row. For the neck, stitches are bound off in front, then are cast on for the back.

A turtleneck is worked in the round with 2 color brioche stitch, picking up stitches along the neck hole. Brioche ribbing is worked on each edge and an I-cord edge is added for more polished look.

*You can adjust the heigth of the dickey with reducing or adding pattern repeat and adjust the width adding stitches before and after of the checkered pattern (to the stockinette sections). Just make sure there are same number of stitches on both sides of the checkered pattern and cast on odd number off stitches.
