The Cowl is worked in-the-round using slipped stitches so that only one color is knit in each round. The Slip Stitch fabric also makes a pretty design so that the Cowl can be worn Right Side out, Wrong Side out or a combination of both.
This pattern lends itself to using up leftover fingering weight yarn and/or mini skeins as only 30 yards (15 yds held double-strand) are required for each color change. It is also good for using up that “lonely” variegated fingering weight skein that you just don’t know what to do with.
There are a variety of yarns and colors that can be used for this Cowl. In lieu of holding the fingering weight double-strand, a single strand of worsted weight may also be used for the color changes. The Cowl stitch pattern is a multiple of four stitches, so the Cowl circumference can be easily shortened or lengthened by adjusting the number of cast-on stitches by multiples of four. Likewise, it can be made wider or thinner by adding or subtracting rows in multiples of six. Your imagination and yarn are the limits!
