Chesapeake Bay Shawl
Neighborhood Fiber Co. and Rosi G. have teamed up to bring you an adventurous MKAL for the Spring of 2015.
Here are the details you need:
• The MKAL will be hosted in the Neighborhood Fiber Co. group on Ravelry.
• OF COURSE there will be a prize! We LOVE giving prizes…This time we’ve decided to give you ONE GIANT Grand Prize: a $75 gift certificate to Neighborhood Fiber Co. In order to qualify, you have to participate in the threads, be a member of the NFC Rav group and make sure you create a project page for the pattern. A few weeks after the last clue is released, a new thread will be created for everyone to post pictures of their finished shawls. We will give the thread a week or two for people to vote. The shawl with the most “love” clicks will win!
• The pattern will include charted and written directions.
• The pattern is being offered at an introductory price of $3.50 and will go up to $7 after the MKAL.
• Beads are optional.
• The clues will be released on the following dates (all on Wednesdays):
o April 1
o April 8
o April 15
o April 22
o April 29
o May 6
MATERIALS
Yarn: Neighborhood Fiber Co. Cobblestone DK, 2 skeins, 550 yds. You could also use Studio DK or one of the fingering weights, adjusting your needle size accordingly. You want the stockinette part of your swatch to be airy, but not appear to be too lacey and open where you can’t tell the yo’s from the knit stitches.
Needles: US 6 (4.0mm) (I used a 24” circular)
Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows in Swatch Chart pattern (included with purchase) = 4 inches (lightly blocked)
Beads: I went through about 10 different beads before finding ones suitable for the yarn. I enjoyed swatching the different beads. I ended up using Miyuki #5 triangle beads from Fire Mountain Gems. I purchased 3 packs. You may have some extra….unless you drop them in the subway…or on the bus….or in a park….sigh…
My favorite tool for knitting with beads is the Fleegle Beader by The Gossamer Web.
