This scarf was designed to play with the color changes in a self-striping yarn with long sections of color. Every time the color changes, the chevron stitch pattern changes as well.

To add even more striping fun, vertical stripes are created with crochet duplicate stitch. To add these stripes, a purl stitch is worked at the “peak” of each chevron, and when the scarf is complete, rows of crochet duplicate stitch are worked using the purl columns as a guide.
