Chicago Heights
Timeless heirloom? ABSOLUTELY! Chicago Heights is a sheep to sweater project to create a garment that is beautiful, stylish, and can be worn for generations.
The design is intended to be knit with HANDSPUN yarn!!
Provisions for commercial yarn are included in the pattern. The sweater is knit from the top-down beginning with the yoke. The yoke is then modified into a raglan near the armholes for a better fit. The body is continued in the round to the hem. The sleeves are then picked up and knit to the cuff. There is no seaming.
Color work has long floats that require catching (Jacquard Ladderback technique works well) and up to four colors are used in a few rounds.

Notes on Handspun: Singles were spun Z at 28 wpi and 3.5 tpi. Singles were plied S into a 2-ply with a twist angle of 30 degrees and 11 wpi. Yarn was processed worsted but spun woolen. Skeins were treated in hot/cold baths several times, then snapped and hung to dry without weight. If making from fleece, plan for at least 50% “waste”.
