Directions are given for a fun, cozy, chill-chasing cowl – one that is long enough to wear as a hood (48 inches). The sample is worked in a wonderful merino wool/silk blend but would work equally well in any worsted-weight wool or wool blend.

You’ll need just two colors – one a varigated and the other a complementary solid. Make sure that the solid is different than any colors in the varigated so as not to lose the pattern. You will need a third color, I used a solid, for the optional (but highly recommended) contrast lining to cover the stranded-colorwork and add another layer for greater warmth.

Directions are written with a colorwork chart, which you will read from right to left, repeating the 12-stitch repeat 16 times around.

color/amounts used for the 48” cowl
MC cream (“papyrus”) 250 yds
CC1 varigated (“sepia”) 100 yds
optional CC2 green (“sage”) 150 yds
