Chiroptera
Chiroptera
Pronunciation: kīˈräptərə, meaning Bat
I like a bit of an avant-garde style~
This very striking shawl when laid flat truly reminds one of a bat. Hence the name…
How to Style Video link and Photo Gallery included!
The wrap is worked flat from corner to corner. The very last lace section can be used as a built-in closure. Simply feed the skinny opposite end through any of the lace openings, literally. A fast and truly fun knit!
Measurements: Soft blocked 55” in length and 26” at its widest point.
NOTE: The shawl can easily made bigger by repeating Sections 4 and 8 of the pattern. Of course stitch numbers will change, plus you will need more yarn.
Level of Expertise: Advanced Beginner
Yarn ideas:
Pretty yarn cakes by Yarnz2go, 2 cakes.
Zen Garden, Serenity Silk Single, 1 skein. 410 yards used.
Alternatively: A variety of yarns will work here, from a sock yarn, fingering, sport, or DK weight. Also a heavier yarn will work, you just need larger needle sizes, and the wrap will come out larger.
Notions:
US size 5 (3.75mm) circular needle 29” in length.
US size 10 (6 mm) circular needle 29” in length.
Gauge: 16 sts and 14 ridges in 4” of Garter stitch
A big thank you to my Editor Kathy Berkel and all test knitters!
