The ridged texture of this round-necked cardigan makes this one that will please any boy or girl. Knit using a jacquard self-striping yarn, the yarn does all the work for you.

This cardigan is worked bottom up, in pieces and seamed. It has modified set-in sleeves with a short sleeve cap. Worked in a stitch pattern that’s dictated by the stripes in the self-striping yarn. Stitches are picked up along the front edges and neckline to create a rolled edging.

This knitting pattern includes written directions, a colour chart for intarsia stitch pattern and written instructions, detailed yardage requirements for each intarsia bobbin/sections, instructions for both male and female button placement, a schematic with measurements, and thoughtful details.

Substitution Notes
Choose a fingering weight/4-ply yarn with easy care instructions. Superwash wool and sock yarns (whether wool or cotton blends) will work wonderfully. The striping pattern in the self-patterning yarn needs to have distinct sections of colour where it’s easy to change stitch patterns. Look for a yarn that’s designed to change colour every 4-6 rounds when knit into a pair of socks.

Techniques
Stockinette stitch, reverse stockinette stitch, working intarsia from instructions and/or a chart, increases/decreases, three needle bind off, basic modified set-in sleeve sweater construction, worked flat, bottom up, seaming, picking up stitches, buttonholes and sewing on buttons.
