Chornblüemli Schal is Swiss German and means Cornflower Shawl. In my area, countryside Zurich, there are many Cornflowers and I love them as they bring childhood memories back everytime I see some.
This heart-shaped shawl captivates by its two beautiful sides in the double knitted technique, framed by rows worked in two-colored garter stitch with both yarns held together.

Gauge
24 sts and 38 rows per 10cm / 4” worked flat in double knitting, after blocking.
Changes in gauge, while not crucial for the fit of the project, will result in size differences and affect the amount of yarn needed to complete the project.

Techniques Used
• 2 color Italian cast on

(You knit two right sides at the same time, with two colors. Important to know: the chart shows only the front side stitches (MC) and the backside stitches (CC) are worked simultaneously)
• In- and decrease in double knitting
• Two-colored garter st with both strands of yarn held together

Construction
This heart-shaped shawl is worked from the top (near the neck) downwards. The main part is worked in double knitting. Every second row a total of 6 double stitches are added, two on each outside edge and two in the middle. After the 3rd side repeat the two-colored garter stitch gently starts to flow in, framing the cornflowers. The increases continue and as soon as one cornflower is knitted, the double knitting is replaced by the two-colored garter stitch. When the garter stitch meets in the middle, this patterning is worked for a couple of more rows before the piece is bound off loosely.
