This stitch pattern is reminiscent of small cocoons, hence the name Chrysalis.

This pattern is delicate, pretty, visually interesting, and like most of my favourite stitch patterns, it looks more complicated than it is. It’s really just several rows of stockinette stitch with an occasional row of knitting trickery thrown in to keep it interesting. The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial demonstrating the pattern stitch.

This pattern requires a seamless cast on. I used Judy’s magic cast on, though you should use whichever cast on you would normally use for toe up socks. You can also use a provisional cast on with scrap yarn. The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial that demonstrates the cast-on method that was used in the sample, as well as the unique construction of the slipper.

Instructions are included for 5 circumferences and foot length is customizable. The stitch pattern is both written and charted. The pattern is needle-neutral to accommodate your preferred method of working small circumference in the round.

8 stitches & 12 rounds per 1 inch/2.5 centimetres in stockinette stitch both flat and in the round, measured after blocking
