It’s the yarn that’s chunky – and not necessarily the guy – in this perfectly proportioned classic beanie.

It’s worked from the top down in joined rounds.

SIZES
SMALL (MEDIUM, LARGE, EXTRA LARGE)
To fit head circumferences of
21 (22, 23, 24) in./53 (56, 58, 61) cm

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
NOTE: The fit of this beanie is designed to be smaller than actual head circumference with approx. 2 in./5 cm of negative ease.
Circumference at bottom edge:
19¼ (20, 21¼, 22) in./49 (51, 54, 56) cm
Depth:
Approx. 8 in./20 cm, or as desired

YARN
NOTES: You can choose an easy-care acrylic or wool-blend, or -- for a special hat -- a butter-soft merino wool or cashmere blend. You may also use a chunky-weight yarn equivalent, such as two strands of light worsted-weight yarn held together. Yardage is for an 8-in./20-cm deep beanie; a longer beanie will take approx. 7 yd./6.5 m more yarn for each additional dc round.
Chunky (#5 Bulky)
• Approx. 80 (81, 85, 89) yd./73 (74, 78, 81) m

(If they want a hat that covers their ears, some men will need a deeper beanie. Use a tape measure to find an individual’s hat depth. Holding the tape measure at the bottom of one ear, go up over the top of the head and down to the bottom of the other ear. Divide this measurement in two.)
