Cinderella is on the verge of giving up her dream after having her dress torn to shreds by her wicked stepsisters. But while the girl is heartbroken, her faith isn’t completely destroyed, and she is rewarded by the appearance of her Fairy Godmother, who helps Cinderella finally make it to the ball. It is, in Cinderella’s own words, a “wonderful dream come true.” Likewise was the film itself for Walt Disney. With the studio struggling in the aftermath of World War II, the huge success of Cinderella at the box office, along with its many awards and accolades, was a much-needed win for Disney. It enabled him to greatly expand his animation studio and helped fund many other dream projects, including the start of production on Disneyland in California. After the achievement of Cinderella, Disney said, “There’s something about that story I associate with.”

Inspired by Cinderella and her unwavering faith in her dreams, this two-colored crescent shawl is worked from the top down beginning with an i-cord tab. It alternates bands of easy German short-row garter stitch and elegant simple lace, symbolizing Cinderella’s transformation from humble servant girl into graceful lady ready for the ball. The border edge is worked in two-color brioche ribbing, suggesting that she is easily able to blend her two lives, all while remaining the same kindhearted and gracious person. Made with Cinderella-inspired hand-dyed yarn, this shawl is the perfect accessory for a night out on the town or at the ball.
