Garter and brioche will always be my go-to ingredients for creating my favorite shawls to knit and wear! This shawl plays with two-color Garter and Brioche with the increases offset to create an asymmetrical shawl that wants to be wrapped right around you! This shawl turns up the volume on texture by using DK weight yarn in one color and Sport weight yarn in the other color!
DETAILS
This shawl is knit top down with asymmetrical shaping and encased in a garter stitch border. One half of the shawl is 2 color brioche and the other half is 2 color garter stitch.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Wingspan - 74”/188 cm
Deepest Depth - 32”/81 cm
YARN REQUIREMENTS
These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make.
MC - DK Weight Wool 200 g/800 yds/732 m
CC - Sport Weight Wool 150 g/600 yds/549 m
Using two different weights of yarn adds even more texture to this shawl. I kept my MC neutral and used my CC to play with color. Anything from another solid, to gradient sets or even stash scraps would be great! You are looking for a flowy fabric with nice drape. I recommend yarns with some bounce back (wool, for example) to help keep the brioche from stretching out too much. The best way to know if your yarn choice will work is to do a swatch and wet block it! If you like the drape and feel, then go for it!
