I’ve been craving an any-weight all-over-lace cowl in my collection for a long time. I recently discovered Canadian dyer Julie Asselin’s Journey base, a delicious non-superwash blend of 80% Ramboulliet and 20% Targhee, available in both Sport and Worsted weights. I set out to design a cowl that could use either of these weights. Something that shows off the beautiful yarn as well as the simple but intricate-looking details, a piece that’s super wearable but can be dressed up or down. Journey is next-to-skin soft, has beautiful stitch definition, and comes in an incredible array of gorgeous colorways.
This seamless, bottom up cowl pattern is written for sport and worsted weight yarn. if you’d like to substitute a different weight, use the instructions for sport for fingering weight yarn and worsted for DK weight yarn.
This pattern was designed in collaboration with Jule Asselin, and yarn support was provided. I chose Julie’s Journey Sport and Worsted for this pattern because of its round body, crisp stitch definition, and tonal beauty. I love this non-superwash Rambouillet/Targhee blend yarn, and highly recommend it for this pattern! If substituting, look for smooth non-superwash yarn or any superwash yarn (note, superwash yarn will have more drape and wear lower around the neck).
The chart is color coded to make it easier to follow at a glance. I highly recommend you try working from the chart, even if you’re new to charts or lace! Testers found it easier to work from than the written!
