In the case of socks, it’s hard to beat the  classics. These are classic machine knitted  socks with a couple of little twists. On a flatbed knitting machine with a ribber, the ribbing is going to have to be seamed. For these  socks, the necessity becomes a design feature. The seam is placed at the back of the ankle and made with a mock cabling technique that adds a little pizzazz. They also have an  unusual and super easy way of closing the toe. It may occur to you as you read the instructions that the method might make the toe uncomfortable but it doesn’t and it removes the necessity for grafting the toe.
If you want to make a pair of true classics and skip the variations, instructions for doing  are included.  Use a #1 yarn that is designed especially for  socks and has a little bit of stretchy fiber  included. 8 stitches 12 rows/“.
