CLOUDWATCHING
There is a saying that the simple things in life are the best and this stole/scarf/blanket is as simple to knit as possible! This is a bias knit stole/scarf inspired by The Fibre Co Cirro and the cloudwatching that I used to do with my children; the seeing shapes and animals in the clouds (that I admit to not having grown out of). The pattern is incredibly adaptable and can be adjusted to make a narrower scarf, a wider stole or be made even wider for a blanket! Bands of simple lace are interspersed with stripes of stocking stitch that effortlessly lead into the next lace section. Sorry, but for your shapes and animals you will have to continue to look to the skies!
Cloudwatching makes for perfect TV/sociable knitting. It is worked on 4.5mm needles and is straight forward enough to take to knit group, chat whilst knitting and there is no need for stitch markers!
The Fibre Co Cirro; a fabulous, alpaca/cotton/merino, yarn that is warm yet light. It is a dream to knit with and comes in a fabulous array of colours. Your new stole will be wonderfully toasty as a spring or autumn wrap and scrunched up for a fabulous winter warmer - Cloudwatching will become an indispensable accessory.
REQUIREMENTS
Size Options: As written –133” (337cm) long, 18” (46cm) wide after blocking. Note that measurements will differ depending on tension, blocking etc and these are given as a guide only.
Yarn: The Fibre Co Cirro (225m/50g) two skeins of Yarn A (I used winter white - Seraphic) and two skeins of Yarn B (I used blue - Divine).
Circular Needles: 4.5mm (US 7) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric, your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape, and a 5.5mm (US 9) to bind off.
You will also need: needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a stole. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 19 sts to 4” before blocking and 15.5 sts to 4” after. Measurement taken over stocking stitch using 4.5mm (US 7) needles.
You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or colour aspects of the pattern in coloured pencils.
The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
