The first time I saw a selection of yarn from la Bien Aimeé I was struck by the beauty of all of the color-ways and the sometimes subtle difference between two different options. At first glance the colors could be confused for one another but upon closer inspection there were differences. I decided I wanted to design a shawl that utilized these shades. And since I love crescent shapes, that was my starting point.

I chose to work with le Petit Nuage (Color A) and le Grand Nuage (Color B) because they looked so similar in the skein. My goal was to create a lazy fade, by choosing two very similar colors I could achieve a fade-like appearance without any of the work involved in knitting a fade! Of course you can choose contrasting colors or simply two matching skeins.

The simple slip stitch texture in the center panel plays particularly well with variegated and speckled yarn and the side panels provide an overall texture that is a little more engaging to knit than garter. All of this together makes for a fairly relaxing knit that doesn’t really require concentration yet at the same time won’t put you to sleep.

Notions required: two stitch markers
Stitches used: knit, purl slip with yarn in back, slip with yarn in front, yarn over
