Remember the feeling you experienced when you (or your children or grandchildren) received that first box of 8 Giant Crayons? Excitement? Anticipation? Expectation? Joy? Consternation? Anxiety? Those are all of the feeling I felt when I received my first skein of Crayon Colors Yarn from Done Roving! With all of those feeling in play, I decided to mimic a journey through the creative process of coloring my first picture.

I started out tentatively, using garter stitch to get a feel for the yarn and how the color would play with the stitches. As my confidence grew, I advanced to a simple eyelet stitch remembering my mother’s words many years ago about how fun and easy it is to make holes in your knitting. With growing confidence I moved on to a cable-type stitch. The Purl Twist stitch is really a Right Twist cable stitch worked on the purl side without a cable needle instead of the knit side and creates a fabric that I think mimics linen stitch but is much easier to execute. And finally I ended with increases and decreases in the form of Granite Stitch.

When it came time to name this journey, the one word that seemed to describe my feelings through every step of this process was: Happy.
