Color Poem
Color Poem is a reversible, multi-color, triangular scarf or shawl using a slip stitch pattern from Reversible Knitting and Floating yarn from A Verb for Keeping Warm. The pattern was designed in collaboration with A Verb for Keeping Warm in Oakland, California, who created gorgeous kits for the 2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl. Floating is a light-fingering blend of silk, alpaca, and cashmere that is soft, luxurious, and drapey with a beautiful shine. The colors are all naturally dyed and mix wonderfully.
The scarf is 50 inches wide and uses a total of 437 yds (400 m) either as five 87 yd (80 m) mini-skeins or two 219 yd (200 m) skeins. The shawl is 75 inches wide and uses two 437 yd (400 m) skeins.
The triangle is worked tip-up in a mix of striped bands and solid-color bands. The ends from the color changes are secured with whip stitches, creating little decorative nubs on the edges.
The first variation of Color Poem is a 5-color scarf. Because using five equal mini-skeins in a triangle is a tricky, this variation comes with a row-by-row checklist that makes it easy to track your rows and color changes to ensure that you do not run out of a color mid-row.
The second variation uses two full skeins of Floating. In this version, you work in 2-row striping until the main color is almost gone, then work the contrasting color by itself to complete the edge.
The pattern also includes some tips for those of you who want to create your own color movements.
