Yarn
I am using the Scheepjes Metropolis Colour Pack - 80 x 10 gram balls. With 2 balls of 10 grams, you can make two squares. Because we reverse the colours for the second square, each square uses the same amount of yarn.
If you want to use different yarns, you totally can! Perhaps you have some sock-weight mini’s, or some scraps from previous projects. I advise you to use the same yarn weight throughout this blanket. In terms of fibre content, I recommend yarns with at least 70% wool, or acrylic yarns. Bamboo or cotton yarns will not work as well.
If you are using a thicker yarn, please note that you will need more. Each square uses around 40 meters of sock weight yarn, but for thicker yarn you will need more meterage. Try it out with a set of squares, weigh your yarns before and after each square, and you can calculate how much yarn you need.
Needles/Gauge
I am using 3mm needles. Usually people tend to use a larger needle than me, so you could start on 3.5mm needles and see if you get a nice fabric. If you are using the same yarn as me, and if you don’t run out of yarn when knitting a set of 2 squares, you’re good to go.
Blanket size
The blanket consists of 80 squares which are each 14x14cm. If you have a blanket layout of 8 x 10 squares, it will be 112 x 140cm (44”x 55”). If you have more yarn, you can add more squares for a larger blanket. The moss stitch border included in this pattern will add approx. 2cm/0.8 inch to each side of the blanket.
