Cordova Cap
Cordova, Alaska. A community built on the elemental drive of salmon to come home in an annual migration. Rimmed by mountains, threaded with glacial streams, it is at once majestic and welcoming.
The Cordova Cap celebrates the salmon and the scenery of this fishing town. It is designed with 10 shades of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift fingering weight yarn, but in true Fair Isle style only two colors are used in each round. I think it would look great in only two colors, too!
The cap pattern is written for adult medium or large sizes, manipulating gauge from 30 stitches/4” to 28 stitches/4” to change the size. You can use a corrugated rib or a 1x1 solid rib; I suggest a smaller size needle for the solid rib due to its inherent lateral stretch.
The following colors and approximate generous quantities are used in this cap (size medium with corrugated rib):
#135 Surf 5g / 23 yd
#185 Sunglow 7g / 32 yd
#227 Earth 8g / 36 yd
#271 Flame 6g /28 yd
#301 Salmon 5g / 23 yd
#319 Artichoke 7g / 32 yd
#789 Marjoram 5g / 23 yd
#1010 Seabright 6g /28 yd
#1020 Nighthawk 8g / 36 yd
#1130 Lichen 4g / 18 yd
Please be aware that measuring such small quantities of yarn can be quite imprecise! Wool can capture humidity, for example, which affects the weight-per-yard calculations.
