Corduroy Shawl

Corduroy isn’t just for pants anymore! These shawls play around with alternating stockinette and reverse stockinette sections to create “wales” of different sizes, much like those corduroys that provide such warmth and comfort. Holding a mohair/silk lace-weight with a silky fingering gives you a luscious fabric that begs to be worn next to the skin, with a fuzz that’s just perfect.
Yarn
approximately 450 yards/411.5 m EACH of fingering-weight and lace-weight held together. I used Knitted Wit Shimmer Fingering in Unicorn Giggles and Fairy Floss in Spectre Specs held together for the Narrow Wale version, and Knitted Wit Shimmer Fingering in Magical Me and Fairy Floss in Gates of the Arctic held together for the Wide Wale version.
You can use a strand each of a fingering-weight yarn and a lace-weight kid mohair/silk blend for this shawl, or, if you prefer, you can use a fingering- or sport-weight yarn on its own. Note that if you use a fingering-weight yarn on its own, your gauge may be a bit loose, and you’ll merely need the 425 yards/389 m of fingering- or sport-weight yarn.
Needles
US6/4mm (or size to obtain gauge) circular needle, 24”/60 cm or longer.
Finished measurements
Wingspan: 72”/183 cm; length: 61”/155 cm; width at bind-off edge: 52”/132 cm, measured after blocking.
