Cosmic Wonder
As winter settles in, and the days are dark and the winds are cold, we all need a little cheer and comfort. We long for something cozy to wrap ourselves in, and nothing fits the bill quite like brioche. Cosmic Wonder is a modified crescent-shaped shawl, worked in squishy garter and brioche.
Choose as colorful or as subtle a palette as your imagination can dream up. Light up the dark days of winter with bright colors on your needles, or soothe yourself with calming neutrals – the sky is the limit! A coloring page is included with the pattern to help you work out color placement before diving in.
Cosmic Wonder is worked top-down with increases and short rows providing the shaping. The addictive two-color brioche keeps it fun and interesting to knit, while short rows in the garter sections create unexpected changes of direction.
Size
23” (59 cm) x 95” (241 cm), after blocking.
Yarn
Approximately 1000 - 1200 yards (915 - 1100 meters) of fingering weight yarn in a variety of colors. The pattern is written for 5 colors, but don’t let that limit you! If you choose to use 5 colors, you’ll need approximately 360 yards (330 meters) MC, 360 yards (330 meters) CC1, 50 yards (46 meters) CC2, 75 yards (69 meters) CC3, 225 yards (206 meters) CC4.
Samples are shown in madelinetosh Pashmina in Tern (MC), Cosmic Wonder Dust (CC1), Leaf (CC2), Cobalt (CC3) and Prairie Fire (CC4); and The Lemonade Shop Mighty Sock in Shark Bait (MC) and The Lemonade Shop Simple Sock in Unicorn Battle (CC1).
Gauge
16 sts, 26 rows in brioche = 4”/10 cm, after blocking. Exact gauge is not crucial for this project, but variances will affect yardage and finished dimensions. Gauge is given for the brioche sections. Some knitters may find that their gauge is significantly different for the garter sections. If this is the case, you may want to use a bigger needle size for the garter sections only.
