Counterpane Pullover
Pattern description from Knitting in America: “Nicky was inspired to design this roomy and comfortable Counterpane Pullover after making an afghan from Mary Walker Phillips’s book Knitted Counterpanes. Rather than making another bed covering (the traditional use for counterpanes), Nicky envisioned a sweater made up of diamond-shaped counterpanes. She chose Rowan’s Fox Tweed DK for the counterpanes and Rowan’s DK Light Wool for the foliage. To create this sweater, you must knit sixty-four triangles (thirty-six of which are stitched together to form nine diamonds) plus an unadorned diamond to be used for the center front. The diamonds and triangles are stitched together to ‘build’ the sweater shape; knitted foliage is appliquéd and embroidered in the center. The sweater can be lengthened by adding an extra row of counterpanes at the bottom edge. The pattern for the Counterpane Pullover appears on page 173.”
