Couplet two successive lines of verse forming a unit usually marked by rhythmic correspondence, rhyme, or the inclusion of a self-contained utterance
– Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary

Couples are wholes and not wholes, what agrees disagrees, the concordant is discordant. From all things one and from one all things.
– Heraclitus, On the Universe

Needles: size US4 (3.5mm), 47” or longer, or size required to get gauge

Gauge: 23 stitches = 4” in unblocked garter stitch (gauge is not critical but will affect yarn usage)

Yarn: 2 colors fingering weight, The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze Peppino highly recommended. Approximately 150 yards each of main color (MC) and contrast color (CC)

Techniques: Möbius Cast On, Brioche, i-cord Bind Off

Long (double-able) and short versions included in pattern. The only difference is the amount of yarn used and the number of stitches to cast on. When making a long version, you may find a 60” needle easier to use than a 47”.

Couplet was designed to celebrate The Yarn Stop’s second anniversary. It uses two major techniques (möbius cast on and brioche) in two colors, using a yarn that was introduced to the store during the grand opening. Is that symbolic enough for you?

Pick your favorite two colors and cast on a Couplet. The pattern will show up best with two high-contrast yarns, but who am I to tell you what to knit?
