This cowl is warm wearable jewelry. The glass beads give the project weight as well as the shine of a necklace. Match the beads to your yarn or create high contrast for a more dramatic look.

This pattern ticks a lot of boxes:

  • single skein (100g) of fingering or DK or worsted weight yarn
  • office-appropriate neck warmer
  • beads (or no beads)
  • 100% reversible
  • memorizable stitch patterns

Skills needed:

  • knit
  • purl
  • increase (yarn over)
  • decrease (ssk, p2tog)

The length and depth of the cowl can be adjusted to your desired length or to the amount of yarn available. Add or remove groups of 14 stitches (and twice that number of beads).

Beads are pre-strung: half at the beginning, and then half at the end.

The pattern only uses a stitch marker for a few rounds. Most of the pattern is knit in stitch patterns that are repeated until it’s time to work the next section, so it’s easy to put down and pick up again.
