Cozy Cables Earwarmer
Cozy Cables Earwarmer is an original PlanetJune Accessories crochet pattern by June Gilbank to make an earwarmer headband or fitted cowl.
The Cozy Cables Earwarmer is a stylish way for everyone to ward off the winter chill, from small children to large adults. Dense crochet cables form a plush squishy fabric that’s great for blocking wind, with bonus hidden stitches on the inside to fill the gaps and keep you warmer around the edges. And don’t tell anyone, but the gorgeous cable pattern looks far more complex than it is - there are only two pattern rows to memorize!
Size: Earwarmer measures 3-4” (7.5-10cm) wide, depending on the yarn weight, and can be customized to any
desired length, to fit anyone from small children to large adults. Customize it by measuring the head size of the person you’re making it for, or choose from the provided standard head sizes.
Difficulty: intermediate
Yarn: Yarn of your choice (any yarn weight DK #3 or heavier will work with this pattern; using a thicker yarn will increase the width of the earwarmer and the size of the stitch pattern, and make the finished piece bulkier) and an appropriate hook
Sample earwarmers were for a 21” head size and used:
-
Pink sample: 95m/105yds worsted weight (medium #4) yarn and a J US/6mm hook Specific yarn I used: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Magenta)
-
Purple sample: 200m/220yds light fingering (super fine #1) yarn, doubled this is the equivalent of 100m/110yds of one strand of DK (light #3) yarn, and an H US/5mm hook Specific yarn I used: Loops & Threads Woolike in Lavender
Hook: H US / 5mm for DK/light weight, J US / 6mm crochet hook for worsted weight
Details: The pattern includes full stitch instructions and my tips for all the techniques used, as well as written and charted versions of the pattern.
