Discovering a winning yarn combination is like hitting a gold ore. For the Cozy Winter cardigan, I hit just such a winning combination: A woolly aran weight yarn in a neutral color held together with a variegated mohair lace weight yarn. The variegation in the lace yarn gives just a hint of colorful structure to the semisolid base yarn, and the mohair gives everything the most gorgeous halo!
Together with the generous size of this cardigan, I feel perfectly shielded against colder weather.

Cozy Winter is a cozy, simple cardigan in a subtle stitch pattern, worked from the top down. First the neck band is worked, stitches are picked up along it and the back is worked flat to the underarms. Then stitches are picked up for the front, which are worked to the underarms before joining with the back for the remainder of the body. For the sleeves, stitches are picked up along the armhole edge, and the sleeves are worked in the round from the top down.

Yarn used: Kettle Yarn Waltham Aran (100% Bluefaced Leicester), 155 meters / 182 yards per 100g, 5-6-7-8-8-9 skeins. Colorway used: “Graveney”.
Note that this yarn is discontinued. Any wool yarn of the same approximate yardage can be substituted!

Approximate meterage/yardage needed:
830-940-1080-1190-1280-1410 meters / 915-1035-1190-1310-1410-1550 yards (of both yarns!).

Needles: 5 mm / US 8 circulars, 80 cm / 32 inches, or straight needles. 4,5 mm / US 7 circulars (same length), for cuffs, using magic loop method.
Optional: Double pointed needles in both sizes for sleeves (if not working magic loop method).

Gauge: Sample uses gauge of 14,5 sts & 24 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in stitch pattern worked flat on bigger needles, after blocking.

Size: XS-S-M-L-XL-2XL, to fit bust of 74-84-94-104-114-124 cm / 29-33-37-41-45-49 inches circumference with positive ease.
Actual garment measurement, bust width: 46-50,5-58,5-63-67-71 cm / 18-20-23-24.75-26.5-28 inches.
