I was inspired by the sleeves of my infant daughter’s nightie to make these mitts. Instead of the traditional flip-top of a convertible mitten, the top is joined to the mitt on three sides and functions as a decorative cuff when not in use.

Cradle Convertible Mitts are knit in the round on dpns with a simple gusset thumb. Flaps on the hands and thumbs allow them to be worn either as mitts or as mittens. The pattern offers three sizes.

Yarn: You will need approximately 125 (145, 165) yards of a heavy worsted or aran-weight wool for best results.

Supplies:

  • 4 US size 5 dpns (or size needle required to obtain gauge)
  • 2 stitch markers
  • stitch holder or waste yarn
  • tapestry needle

Sizing:

  • XS circumference is approximately 5 inches flat, 7 inches stretched.

  • S/M circumference is approximately 6 inches flat, 8 inches stretched.

  • L circumference is approximately 7 inches flat, 9 inches stretched.
