Crest of the Wave Cowl

A basic knit and purl checkerboard is given a twist:

Gauge

Gauge not critical but will affect size and yarn requirements.

Unblocked Stockinette Stitch – For yarn/needle selection
24 Stitches by 30 Rows = 4” (10 cm) Square

This gauge provided for yarn and needle pairing, to get an appropriate fabric density without knitting the entire repeat.

Gauge in Stitch Pattern - Relaxed
32 Stitches by 40 Rows = 4” Square

Notes and Tips

A firm fabric with snug stitching
will maximize, and better retain, dimension.

Smooth yarns recommended for best stitch definition.

Note: No button holes in pattern.
Sample is closed with dual-sided buttons.
The dual-sided buttons are pairs of buttons sewn together back to back. Buttons should be selected to be small enough to go through the weave in the naturally occurring larger spaces in the curls.
You might also seam your edge, or use a shawl pin.
