British/Australian terminology is used throughout this pattern.

Gauge is not important, although a firm fabric is desirable.

The pattern PDF includes instructions for both DK and Aran weight versions.

The bag has a solid base, alternating mesh and solid fabrics throughout the body and has a wide strap so as not to cut into your shoulder. It would be equally at home at the market or a day at the beach.
