Crocus Petal Edging
Crocus Petal Edging is knit flat. Once the needed length is bound off, it is folded along the ribbed edge, and stitches are picked up and knit through the double yarn overs. See link text
This pattern is like a stitch dictionary, it gives the instructions, but you get to experiment with yarn and needles to find your best gauge. There are some tips though! Including how to use a scale to make sure there is enough yarn to edge your project.
I recommend a smooth yarn. Subtle color variations would be interesting, and mohair would be translucent.
Since this edging is modular (you knit it in one yarn then pick up stitches along the folded double yarn overs) it’s an easy way to get color contrast into a project by using one color for the edging, and another color for the main work.
You could use it:
• Along the bottom of a shawl
• Beginning and ending of a ribbed scarf
(show off your grafting!)
• Lower edge of a summer top
• Hem of a dress
• Cuff of a sleeve
• Wherever you want some whimsy
