“Perhaps I’ll wear Granny Adaldrida’s shawl! She wore it when crossing the Brandywine River into Buckland after her wedding to Marmadoc Brandybuck.”
Drogo sighed, knowing another fantastic tale of Primula’s family history was forthcoming…
“Yes, Granny saved her husband’s life on their honeymoon trip. When the paddles were swept overboard by a rogue wave, they were stranded in the middle of the Brandywine River – with river eels swarming around the boat – so Granny (with great presence of mind!) fashioned her shawl into a sail and the breeze blew their boat safely across to Buckland!” Primula recounted proudly.
Drogo’s eyes popped wide at the thought of rogue river waves, lost oars, and swarming eels…
“I inherited her crochet pattern for the shawl,” Primula said, looking admiringly at the shawl she held aloft… “Granny called the pattern ‘Crossing the Brandywine.’”
