Crows Nest Cardigan
The everyday, everywhere, with everything cardigan. This cardi started life as a class demonstration for my ‘how to finish a sweater’ class at SSK, the Knitgirllls Super Summer Knit-together. It is worked in pieces and seamed because it was designed as a primer on basic finishing skills- mattress stitch, shoulder joins, how to set in sleeves, picking up stitches etc… and less basic skills, if you’re up for it I recommend a tubular cast on and a sewn tubular bind off (and remember, its just Kitchener stitch but you’ve got all the stitches on one needle)
This is an open front cardigan (it would be easy enough give it closure, just add a couple of buttons/buttonholes to the front band) with a deep v-neck, set in sleeves, a shaped waist. The textured front band features an asymmetrical rib detail on the right front, inspired by the simple knit/purl/rib details found on traditional fisherman’s sweaters.
